Code of Behaviour Policy
The Code of Behaviour Policy sets out a clear guidance of behaviour for all staff, volunteers and representative under Future Generation Mentors for any Programme, service and or activity with Children and Young People.
Future Generation Mentors “Code of Behaviour” is very important when working with Children and Young People. It provides guidance on the behaviours we require of all our members of staff and volunteers. At FG Mentors it is the responsibility of everyone to ensure their behaviour is consistent with this code in any online or face-to-face programmes and activities with Children and Young People. In order to support children and young people whilst keeping them safe, we require you to read and follow this code of behaviour. If you are unsure about any of the requirements, speak to the Managing Director or the safeguarding team and they will be glad to support you.

You are required to treat all Children and Young People with respect and dignity, ensuring that Children and Young People are at the centre of what we do.

It is important for you to act in the best interests of the Children and Young People you are working with, implementing any recommendations and guidance set by The FG Mentors Safeguarding Team.

You are required to abide by all local and national laws that protect Children and Young People.

You be required to challenge attitudes and behaviours that do not meet the standards of this code.

It is imperative for you to implement professional boundaries when always working with Children and Young People, even during difficult circumstances.

You are required to create a safe environment where Children and Young People feel supported and to raise any concerns or worries they may have.

You are required to plan and record all activities and sessions with Children and Young People appropriately.

It is important to be open and transparent in all forms of communication with Children and Young People.

You are obligated to report any concerns relating to the safety and wellbeing of a Child or Young Person.

You must report any concerns, allegations, or suspicions of abuse.

It is imperative not to act in any way which could lead to the harm, exploitation or abuse of a Child or Young Person.

You must not violate the code of behaviour boundaries by engaging in inappropriate friendships, relationships or sexual relationships with any Child, Young People, or members of their family.

It is imperative that you must not meet a Child or Young Person you know through the FG Mentors programme outside of your role within the organisation.

You must not contact Children and Young People that you are working with through this organisation from your personal social media accounts.

It is important that you do not allow or encourage activities that can lead to bullying behaviour - this includes initiation ceremonies, dares or forfeits.

You must not take part in inappropriate physical, verbal, sexual behaviour with or in the presence of a Child or Young Person.

It is important that you do not carry out your duties for FG Mentors whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

You must not act or behave in a way that puts Children and Young People in unsafe situations.

You should not play down abuse or let it go unreported.

You must not rely on the reputation of FG Mentors, or your position, to protect you from any complaints or allegations.
What to do when:

If you believe a Child or Young Person may be at risk of significant harm you must contact the emergency services by dialling 999 and requesting the appropriate service.

It is your duty to report a safeguarding concern, it is not your duty to investigate the concern.
If you are a member of staff, you must report safeguarding concerns directly to the Safeguarding Team. If you are a volunteer, you must report any safeguarding concerns to your point of contact at FG Mentors and they will then escalate this to the Safeguarding Team. However, if your concern relates to inappropriate or unsafe behaviour by an FG Mentor member of staff or volunteer you must contact the Safeguarding Team directly.
